Momentous order for Fläkt Woods' energy efficient ECONET system (doc)

A landmark order for Fläkt Woods’ energy efficient ECONET system from the Technopolis Group of Finland means Fläkt Woods has now sold over 1000 of their ECONET systems worldwide. It is an amazing achievement since the introduction of the system in year 2000.

Technopolis is Finland's largest company specialising in providing unrivalled operating environments for high tech companies. The science park at Oulu is a unique cluster of some two hundred companies working closely together. For Technopolis to invest in ECONET is another vote of confidence in a system that has set new global standards on energy efficiency, leading the HVAC market and winning awards for innovation and effectiveness.
The ECONET system installed at Technopolis by contractors Putkijohtoliike Pelkonen & Viitala Oy is a system tailor made for Fläkt Woods’ modular air handling units. Within the system all energy functions, such as heat recovery, heating and cooling are integrated into one common circuit. By doing this, fewer components are required such as heating/cooling coils, pumps, valves, piping, insulation etc. The result is a shorter and more compact air-handling unit.

The major advantage of ECONET is its ability to cost effectively utilise both heating and cooling water when treating air. Additionally, the heat recovery efficiency is improved by approximately 15% compared to traditional run around coils.

Commenting on its success, Peter Sundelin, Product Manager ECONET said, “Our operations are based on strong technical know-how, an innovative and high-quality product and definite reliability, which are properties that guarantee satisfied customers.”

The accomplishment is also due in no small part to the foresight of HVAC designers in Finland who have come to appreciate the environmental and economic advantages of the ECONET system. One such expert is Lauri Hautajärvi from Pöyry Building Services Oy; one of Finland's leading and most experienced building engineering companies. Remarking on Econet, Lauri said, ”Our expertise is particularly prominent in commercial and office buildings and in public and industrial building projects. The whole life cycle of the project and its environmental impacts are systematically analysed and developed to ensure optimal profitability, and that is why the ECONET system so appeals to us. The system is well suited to almost any type of building. Another example of the flexibility of the system is that we have recently installed one at Oulu University Hospital (one of five university central hospitals in Finland) which provides treatment for the people in northern Finland.”

“Just as important as innovative engineers is Fläkt Wood’s dedicated ECONET sales team who have helped to promote the ECONET as a system that couples together and simplifies components to achieve a safer and more effective system”, said Peter Sundelin. “And here the work of Antero Peltoniemi and Markku Pelkonen cannot be underestimated as their diligence and dedication is a major factor in us achieving these orders.”

And of the future? Well we’ll leave the last word to Markku Pelkonen who is ever optimistic, saying “When you consider that somewhere in the world every 10 minutes a Fläkt Woods EU air-handling unit is being installed, the potential for ECONET is as great if not greater, so I don’t think it will be that long before we’ll be celebrating the 2000 sale of ECONET world-wide!”
