Fläkt Woods has launched a breakthrough in thrust fan design with the arrival of a new truly symmetrical blade, specially designed for the car park Jetfan sizes from 315mm diameter up to 450mm diameter.

On larger fans, Fläkt Woods was previously only able to offer fans with truly reversible performance using a 200mm hub with 3 blades in one direction and 3 blades in the other direction. By switching to the truly symmetrical blade it is now possible to reduce the hub to 160mm diameter using just 5 blades per fan, significantly increasing performance of the fan design.

Likewise up until now with the 315mm and 355mm diameter fans the Company used the 160mm with 5 blades and could not offer truly reversible performance due to the blade layout.

Now the truly symmetrical blade will allow Fläkt Woods to offer truly reversible performance on these smaller fan sizes. As with the 400mm fan the truly symmetrical blade performance is expected to be at least equal to the existing unidirectional blade.

Andrew Legerton, the engineer leading this development states; “It was our target to combine best performance in a fully reversible configuration as more often now fans have to be capable to operate in either direction in the case of an emergency – this we have achieved”.

As the truly symmetrical blade has been specifically designed for this range of fans it will be more efficient and will be able to offer further power savings for a given airflow and thrust compared to the current blades.

The Company is anticipating that the truly symmetrical blade will completely replace the existing unidirectional blade offering commonality across the car park Jetfan range.
