A complete design solution is now available for car park ventilation with the inclusion of Induction Thrust Fans in the Fläkt Woods fans portfolio, offering customers the best solution for each individual scheme design requirements. They complement the Jet Thrust Fans already popular worldwide, ensuring that all car park layouts and geometries encountered by customers can be addressed by the comprehensive Fläkt Woods range.

Jet Thrust and Induction Thrust systems are acknowledged as the most efficient and cost-effective systems available both in day-to-day running and in the long term. These fan types enable ventilation systems to be designed using CO, NOX and LPG sensor monitoring devices, so that selected fans run only when necessary. In addition, main extract fans do not need to be oversized to cope with the system resistances found in ducted systems, offering further savings.

New induction fan

As with the Jet Thrust Fan the benefits of Induction Thrust Fans include high energy efficiency, but with improved head clearance, lower install costs and lower long-term running costs than the more traditional ducted systems.

A Jet Thrust or Induction Thrust system comprises three elements. Main extract fans provide bulk airflow through the car park (supply may be natural or assisted as required), thrust fans distribute and control airflow in the car park and the control systems optimise and control airflow to suit condition requirements. The thrust fans take the polluted or smoke-laden air and accelerate it through the fan supplying a high-thrust air stream which will induce air movement throughout the car park. Careful design by the Fläkt Woods in-house Computational Fluid Dynamics team enables optimum fan selection and positioning to be determined and achievement of good air movement across the whole car park, providing efficient ventilation and, in an emergency, smoke ventilation to atmosphere.

Fläkt Woods Induction Thrust fans are available in two sizes, providing optimal thrust levels of 75 N thrust or 50 N thrust. Higher thrusts can produce too much air turbulence and can be counterproductive in terms of ventilation efficiency. Units are F300 rated, CE marked, tested and comply with EN12101-3 and certified for 300° C / 2 hours.

Individual project requirements will determine both overall system design and the choice of main extract fans for bulk air flow, selected from the comprehensive Fläkt Woods range of HT certified equipment. An appropriate number of thrust fans are specified and positioned for even distribution and movement of supply air.

Controls can range from a simple timed system to a full CO sensing, multistage system to provide the most energy efficient and compliant solution possible. The type of system is determined by customer project requirements and stipulations of locally applicable ventilation standards. Fläkt Woods provides Jet Thrust and Induction Thrust systems in more than 20 countries, with each of these having its own standards for ventilation.
