Fläkt Woods is supplying almost 1000 chilled beams to provide a complete indoor air quality solution for General Electric's new headquarters building in Milan, Italy.

Under a two phase contract valued at €350,000, Fläkt Woods is providing a range of beams for the twin office facilities, which are currently under construction.

Detailed discussions between Fläkt Woods' Italian distributor, Sagicofim and the mechanical engineers on the project, Studio Ferla from Crema, swayed the customer towards the energy savings and room comfort levels that can be realised by using the beams.

Already under manufacture, the first phase is for over 500 IQID energy efficient beams, providing a complete integrated system for ventilation, cooling and heating, fulfilling most needs for indoor climate.

IQID beams are equipped with a number of functions to provide a multifunctional chilled beam, these include a comfort control, function for high air flow, flow pattern control, heat, control and regulation equipment, lighting and provision for a sprinkler system.

Probably the most exclusive development is the patented flow pattern control (FPC) system, as a result the airflow can be directed up to 45 degrees through integrated vanes. Different directions can be set at sections of 300 mm in the beam. The flow pattern is easily and safely adjusted by a simple operation. FPC is available for induction air beams only.

The highest possible efficiency can be maintained as a result of the FPC function, by adjusting the comfort control and air vanes. A combination of different angles on one side is possible. When increased air flow is required, the flow pattern can be adapted to maintain optimal comfort in the room.

The second phase of the contract, which is due for completion by the summer, includes the supply of a further range of beams for the second office development.
